A Dolphin died from shark bite wounds near Destin Florida. Joe Locklar was working on his house when he spotted six sharks chasing and elderly dolphin toward his pear in Choctawhatchee Bay Florida. Wendy Locklar told the Northwest Florida Daily News that her husband stayed with the injured dolphin, while another man jumped in a canoe and attempted to chase the sharks away.
She said “It looks like the sharks are coming in closer “It’s a little unnerving. A few weeks ago, my husband saw one swim under his kayak. I’m telling my kids, ages 17 to 20, not to go swimming in the bay.”
The dolphin was being transported to the Gulf World Marine Institute in Panama City Florida. Unfortunately it died during transit. Walton County Sheriff’s Office Beach Marine Unite Deputy Keith Parsons said “The dolphin had three fairly large bite marks, very deep cut, It was bizarre that the dolphin was alone. They usually swim in pods.”
Sharks are keepers of the sea and will often target sick or injured animals. Deputy Parsons said “The dolphin looked very old, you could tell by the skin,” adding “It was very welcoming to humans and didn’t fight us. I was hoping she was going to make it…that’s a shame.”
